Treat Yo Self Member Wine Tasting
As the Holidays approach we have a series of wine tastings for our members to enjoy and inspire some gift giving. The first of these events is called “ Treat Yo Self” and will kick off at 6pm Thursday November 21st on 12. Our Beverage Director will host the tasting along with a few wine specialists from our distributor partner . Mezcales de Leyenda
Join us on Tuesday, October 8th at 6pm as we welcome Danny Mena of Mezcales de Leyenda for a crash course on Mezcal. We will taste through his lineup and offer Mezcal flights and custom cocktails. This is a can’t-miss event.
Danny Mena’s Biography
Danny Mena is a Mexican-born, New York City-educated alum of fine dining restaurants like Blue Hill and The Modern. He is the proprietor of a Mexican luncheonette in Bushwick, Brooklyn called La Loncheria, as well as a co-owner of Mezcal de Leyendas’ family of brands.
While running Mexican kitchens in NYC, Danny found a new fascination with mezcal. In 2007 when he opened Hecho en Dumbo, there were only 3 or 4 brands on the market of any quality. And though he did not grow up drinking mezcal, like most Mexicans, he immediately took to the drink. In 2008, two years after Mezcales de Leyenda opened the first mezcal bar in Mexico City called La Botica, they introduced a line of mezcales showcasing traditional mezcals from different regions across the country. In 2009 they reached out to Mena to begin distribution in the United States. Since then, Mena has melded his focus on his original passion of cooking and with his new passion of mezcal. Over the past 12 years the brand has become one of the top 5 brands of the world, growing in double digits year on year. Spreading from NYC, Mezcales de Leyenda is now in the vast majority of states in the United States, as well as Canada, the UK, France, Belgium, Italy, Singapour and, of course, maintains a major footprint in Mexico.

Paradigm Winery will be gracing 12 with their presence on Thursday, September 12th from 6pm to 9pm. This special event is hosted by Lara Attia, National Sales Director of Paradigm Winery, as well as our very own Randy Hayden, Beverage Director of The Roof at Ponce City Market. As always, members will have the opportunity to purchase Paradigm Wines at a discounted rate. Please join us on 12 as we taste amazing wines, enjoy some quality fellowship and raise a glass.
Lara Attia's Biography
Lara grew up on the Sonoma Coast, and fell into and for the wine industry during her first "official" job at a neighboring Russian River Winery. She comes from a food and wine background – Her mother ran the kitchen at the local vegetarian co-op restaurant in their very small town, then founded a successful catering company (that her sister now runs); Her father is a corporate pilot, flying for local wine families. Lara graduated from SSU with a Business Degree and has spent 25+ years working for smaller (mostly), family-owned (always) California wineries and distributors. She landed her dream job at Paradigm in April of 2018, having distributed their wines in Napa Valley for 8 years prior. She's been lucky enough to live and work all around the SF Bay Area, currently in the town of Napa with her brilliant husband and their devastatingly handsome baby boy. They love traveling, reading, and heading out to the beach on the weekends.

Below is a note from the owner….
One score and three years ago, I met my wife, who was living abroad in France. She was not yet my wife nor did she know she would be. While at a soiree in the French Alps, and with matters seemingly in hand, I sauntered off to the bar to work my French for a refill of Malibu and fruit juice. It was then that I noticed a Frenchman awfully close to my gal, making her eyes flutter and her beret tipsy.
He must have the greatest one liner in the world, I thought as I yelled “FEU!” (‘fire’ in French). Once the room cleared out, I ask my sweetheart what he could possibly have said to make her fall into his arms. Her answer? "He held my hands and asked if I believed in the Coup de Foudre."
After years of thinking he’d called her a cute cauliflower, I consulted a French friend who defined Coup de Foudre
as a lightning strike, something unforgettable-"love at first sight"-be it food, wine or someone incredible.
For the past 20 years, we have had the great fortune and honor to work with wine, savor it, and witness its impact on consumers as they navigate the wonders of wine and the sheer pleasure that it brings. We have watched many people commemorate special times in their lives with wine. A few years ago, we embarked on our path to create a unique wine with elements worthy of a Coup de Foudre.
Now that you know our story, we hope that you will share Coup de Foudre wines with the special people in your lives—and that Coup de Foudre will be part of the stories you are inspired to share with us in the future.
